2:00 pm
when so many federal workers couldn't get in. this is a shout out to you, chuck. i know you will be watching. 8:00 p.m. just days after slaughtering nearly two dozen christians there's new reports isis has burned 45 people to death not far from the base where hundreds of marines are training local iraqi forces. the stunning response from the administration over concerns they won't call islamic terrorism by name. today an attorney lashed out at fox news for the criticism its been getting. >> we spend more time, more time talking about what do you call it as opposed to what do you do about it. i mean really. if fox didn't talk about this they would have nothing else to talk about it would seem to me.
2:01 pm
radical islam, islamic extremism. i'm not sure an awful lot is gained by saying it. >> the obama administration talks tougher to fox news than they do to isis. whose the enemy anyway, fox news news? >> i thought he was leaving. i don't understand what's happening here. he's missing the issue. so fox news is the bad guy because we report the truth because we're not afraid of words. this is the head of the department of justice. whose team is he playing for? why is he criticizing us instead of the bad guys instead of the people who are beheading and burning people alive? how misdirecting and off base is this? it's frightening. >> the media sits there and nods their heads and say okay. >> they agree with him. they hate fox news because we keep kicking their as every day
2:02 pm
in the ratings. eric holder keeps making the same mistake and blames fnc for having to report on it. there's the problem. there's a reason language is important. you have these christians that were burned to death by isis. if you call them christians then how do the proactivist blame jews. when muslims kill christians, there's no jews in the equation. that's why language is important. language confuses the issue. those christians were decapitated. it's our leadership with the ability to identify evil that truly is headless. there's no will, no leadership. it's tweaks and treats. >> there's an old saying in baseball, if you have rabbit ears, you're striking out. >> dana knows that. you don't have to explain it.
2:03 pm
come on. rabbit ears, yes. the easiest thing to do to get under eric holder's skin is mention fox news. every other media outlet is carrying their water. it's impressive for him. can i mention one thing? when he's complaining fox news is suggesting they should be more clear in their language. we're not the only ones. let me give you a quick list. former d.i.a. chief michael flint said the same thing. congresswoman of hawaii, she fought in the war. last night on the record with gre greta, she said the same thing. hillary clinton said the same thing. the most important person who said it is egypt's president. he's the one who said that you have to call this what it is. so it's not just fox news and that's why i think eric holder. >> try to leave on a high note.
2:04 pm
>> before i leave i'm going to take another shot. >> it's not a parting shot. i don't understand why this administration goes after fox. he thinks he's on the payroll here. all it does is drive up fox's ratings. you're in the cabinet, you're an important person surely coming down on fox news is a little beneath or any media outlet. there's a point to be made about what he said. dana correct me if i'm wrong but president bush didn't like to refer to islamic terrorism because he didn't like to show. >> we're clear about it in saying there's extremist and. >> correct. >> it was similar. >> how'd that work out? >> i'll tell you this, you don't want that concept we're at war with islam. >> they're islamic extremist. they're not christian extremist. >> by the way, i think a lot of people would agree with the things reported. this is something else.
2:05 pm
this is unbelievable. the state department their idea of how to win the war against isis, check this out. >> we cannot kill our way out of this war. we need in the longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups. they can work with companies around the world to help improve their governments and help build their economy. what makes these 17-year-old kids pick up an ak-47 instead of trying to start a business? >> job opportunities there's no other words to describe how harsh these comments are. it's eroding even the liberal support for the president's strategy. >> what can we do? do nothing. look at the pictures and ask what's for supper? we all need a plan and a root. it takes to destroying isis. the alternative is too sick and too unhuman. we can't see people killed like
2:06 pm
this and flip to the sports page or whose going to win the oscars and act like our country is not being morally humiliated because it is. >> you're losing the battle and the war literally. are you still on board with this strategy? >> i think nobody's giving truth to power here. the problem is we need to say what we need to do to defeat isis. we need troops on the ground rkts all, all of our manpower. it's not because we want it to go this far. we were in iraq for ten years and pulled out. >> who said to pull out and who fail failed. >> that's not the point. the point is if we go back in we have to stay there for decades. nobody wants to say that. we have to talk about how we
2:07 pm
have to go back in there and kill these people. that requires spending decade upon decade of nations building. >> you have to do whatever it takes. >> fine. >> you can't sit there and be fatigue and i'm suffering from restless leg and fatigue. >> i'm fine with that. >> there is a case to be made for making sure there are opportunities within an islamic world, however, shouldn't we stop them from killing us first. if that means killing them first and then having maybe assistance afterwards. >> a couple of things. i think the state department and press office would do well to utilize some of the subject matter experts in the building that are responsible for these areas and put them out on television and let them talk a little bit more about that. they don't always need to be on television and tweet afterwards to explain oh well actually george bush said this so now i'm going to use him as my defense.
2:08 pm
when she is talking about diseffected young people that want jobs so they don't become radicalized, you can make that case for some place like the million refugees that have fled syria and now living in jordan and they're living in camps and they're young people. the problem with our argument is that most of the people that are going over to fight with isis are from middle class families stable families and they're radicalization is happening online. first site you go is twitter. you're like a 15 16 17-year-old kid, where can i learn more about this? then they take you through like putting gasoline on a fire. it could take days or months to completely radicalize anybody. someone in the taliban couldn't reach a 15-year-old in american because they didn't have the technology. these are smart people able to recruit young people. they're not looking for jobs.
2:09 pm
>> the state department doesn't get that. they think we should open up a car wash and all the problems go away. >> it's the timing. people are still being beheaded, burns alive. 45 people. >> talking about economic motivations allows you to ignore the religious motivations. the most obvious answer, this is what they're doing. it's not because they can't get a job at arbys. as a law abiding american who has to eat and sleep and work knowing that you have these chuckle buckets protecting our freedoms, in the faces, the first cohesive in a millennium, we are led by a pod of dorm room resident advisers. i cannot take this woman seriously. when you listen it sounds like an out take from the 40th anniversary of saturday night
2:10 pm
live. if this were a corporation you would escort these clowns out of the building with their cat calenders and gardens and cardboard boxes. it must end. this is the damn white house, state department, united states of america, this is a joke. i'm sorry. when you compare evil with purpose to evil with incompetence evil with purpose almost seems more appealing. >> fallout today says 57% of americans disapprove of how obama is handling the threats of isis. you couple that with 4000 troops headed to kuwait right now, they'll be the first to battle. >> send a resume builder after them. >>handed. she has education and expertise on this matter. she has a degree and worked at
2:11 pm
the c the c.i.a. and they get themselves on television in a place where they can't actually articulate these more complicated thoughts. they should try to find them. >> they think the american people, they believe, are not ready to hear what it takes to defeat these people and the reality is nobody. >> you think that they are not talking to the american people because they think we're not ready? >> do you think this president. >> this president after making a commitment is prepared to go before the american people and say hey, this is what it's going to take to defeat them. >> here's the problem. i don't think american people want to do that, they just don't. you have to, the leader of the free world if we can still call
2:12 pm
the president of the united states that, the leader is suppose to say i know you don't want to hear this. i'm telling you this is what we have to do. the consequences are not extra wide. the problem is they start with the conclusion. the conclusion is we don't want to send them back to iraq and we don't want a global war on terrorist. rather than saying we need to protect the country, here's our goal, strategy and here's how we're going to do this going forward. >> the bigger problem is when you watch this, you're watching this and you can't believe it's the united states. i know a waiter in an improp class that could pull this off better than her. i sit there and go how far has this country sunk? it really is like watching camp counselors putting on a friday night play in front of the campfire. >> you're right. >> stay right there. the white house refuses to call the enemy islamic terrorist and won't call the beheaded
2:13 pm
christians. they only refer to them as citizens. reactions to that. >> isis made very clear in this video this was an execution of people of the cross. what we're seeing unfolding before us in the middle east is genocide. >> it's truly pathological in its inability to state what's going on. when the pope who is not exactly a christian militant who isn't exactly on the behalf of christ says that these people were killed because they were christian and the administration says that the ones killed were egyptian citizens, you got a serious problem. >> they want us to do a quick round. >> he's absolutely right. it is, it's path logical, the refusal. their scared of words. they're frightened. they choose to go after marie
2:14 pm
harp. we're losing ground here yet alone in the middle east. why isn't there courage. a feel like i'm in the wizard of oz. have some heart. >> can we tick off isis more by calling them islamic? >> i didn't want to make this look like a holy war between islam and christianity or islam and the west but unfortunately however, i will say now that whether we want to do that or not, it's a holy war. they're going after them because they're christians. for us to pretend this is not a holy war, that's what they've made it. >> we constantly make a mistake and perhaps they are doing that with us as well. we are looking at their culture in society and trying to put it in our norm. that's not how we look at it. i think that the language matters.
2:15 pm
that's why when the president at the prayer breakfast when he made allegations to the crusades if you look at inspire magazine which is the recruiting tool of islamic terrorism, it's right with the talk of crusades. when the president did that, it really spoke exactly to how they see us rather than how we should see them. >> final thoughts. >> isis is i understand isis. it's an apock lipticalypsic. >> we're going to have to leave it there guys. next, we're going to go live to the white house where a three day summit kicked off today. islamic extremism is off limits. back in a minute.
2:16 pm
2:17 pm
2:18 pm
2:19 pm
2:20 pm
a summit to counterviolence got underway at the white house today. president biden calling for solutions beyond military force to combat terror. >> we all understand dealing with violent extremism that we need answers that go beyond a military answer. we have to work from the ground up and engage our communities and engage those who might be susceptible to be radicalized because they are marginalized. >> for more on the summit, chief white house correspondent henry joins us. this is my favorite countering extremism and promoting positive narratives online. my question to you is this
2:21 pm
summit idea maybe been brewing for a while but they may have announced it under a lot of criticism for not going to pars after the terror show of unity march in pars. then they tried to scramble to put this together. i'm not saying it's a good idea to have it but do you think it will accomplish anything? >> i doubt it accomplishes very much. when we had a press conference the day before a big event you get officials on a telephone call and say here's the great things that are going to happen. when reporters were pressing them, what's going to happen they couldn't come up with deliver rabblesables deliverables. in fairness, when you talk about the breakout sessions yes, it's important to counter the narrative from terrorist. it's important. i know marie harp is getting heat. you can talk about it in a moment and talk about it somemore and use economic tools.
2:22 pm
you remember former president george w. bush as harp was tweeting today talked about pulling people out of poverty. the problem for the white house and for marie harp and other officials is that can't be the key part that's a part of the picture but actually fighting, beating, killing these terrorist is ultimately going to help us win not necessarily some of these side issues. >> all right, greg. >> first i want to apologize to america for spitting on you in the previous block. i got so angry i spat on america. >> on your lower lip. >> well my lower lip. you just wait till later. a, there is going to be no mention of islamic terror at all. i'm assuming this. that will be the terror dare not speak speaketh's name. all we hear is extremism. i'm under the assumption that's not going to be brought up.
2:23 pm
this is an opportunity for pastries and gift bags on the taxpayer's dime. >> one of the summits we've seen many times. they have a language problem. if you put aside this question that's been out there about islamic extremism, why won't they call it, it out, specifically say christians were killed. 21 of them. the egyptians, the christians. if you go back to last week, we checked the press release the white house put out after those three muslim students were killed at the university of north carolina and they specifically said in the press release that nobody should be targeted because of their faith. we don't know all the facts of whether they were targeted specifically for their faith. there's been reports there was a fight over a parking dispute. the white house through a statement from the president last week said nobody should be targeted over their faith and yet when it came to 21 christians being killed this past weekend they didn't mention
2:24 pm
faith. they mentioned egyptian citizen. i think these language issues keep popping up for them and that might overshadow the summit a little as well. >> very quickly joe biden read this as he opened the meeting. he urged that we quote engage those who might be susceptible to being radicalized because they're marginalized. we're sending 4,000 american troops to kuwait that will very likely be the frontline, the first battle boots on the ground against isis. we're playing around with root causes of terrorist is peer at home when the reality is we have people trying to kill us and we're sending american young people into battle. >> i think the white house would argue they're trying all of the above. you heard republicans talk about the energy strategy with more of the above. you need to conserve. in this case the president
2:25 pm
orders air strikes. he's also got american boots on the ground committed even though they don't want to talk about combat boots. there's american troops on the ground training them. you also have to take care of it at home in terms of making sure you're taking action to help prevent people from self-radicalizing here. we saw that in canada so tragically a couple of months ago. >> hey ed, thanks for being with us. how does this administration and president obama compare to isis when they won't use the actual words to describe. the president is saying he's a big city mayor combatting crime. he doesn't want to tie it into islamic extrimmism yet it's complete with evidence this is why they're targeting christians jews, anyone who opposes their believes. it's based on their islamic believes, extremist, yes. we're not on the same page if we
2:26 pm
won't acknowledge that. >> yes. i saw the attorney general took a shot at fox news and said what would fox talk about? look, stick to the facts instead of attack for all sides. look at one of the analyst yesterday saying this is also genocide saying christians and jews are being targeted because of their fate and by the way, it's not just genocide against other groups but thaiey're killing fellow muslims as well. >> it would take a tremendous commitment of both time and blood and treasure. is anybody there talking about the reality? >> to be honest, one interesting piece of it is they did a briefing today and we were pressing some reporters after could you give us an idea the participants and they said we're going to get to it later.
2:27 pm
i'll search my e-mail after this live shot. here we are day one of the summit and we still don't know who all the participants are. i can't answer how deep they're going to go into these issues. it raises questions about where they're starting. what are we going to accomplish? susan rice will be speaking the next couple of days. who else is coming? how deep? >> ed why would that be? how could you not, they know whose going to be there. the thing starts tomorrow morning. they have to show up at 7:00 a.m. >> you pointed out at the top of this this is largely in response of the president not going to paris. they said we're doing it in february and the incident around the rally but we should also say the talk of this went back to last fall. even stranger, this has been in the planning staejs for months. >> it's still not specific to
2:28 pm
islamic terrorist. i don't get it. thanks so much. i got to run. coming up, the president said it was unconstitutional to issue executive action on immigration but then he did. now a federal court has agreed with his original position. the legal show down is on and we're going to talk about what that means next. [alarms blaring] ohhhhh... whoa whoa whoa! who's responsible for this?!? if something goes wrong, you find a scapegoat. ...rick. it's what you do. ahhhhhhhh! what'd you say? uh-oh! kelly! if you want to save fifteen percent or more on car insurance, you switch to geico. it's what you do. rick. don't walk away from me. ahhhhhhhh!

the obama administration was dealt a major set back last night. a federal judge in texas temporarily blocked a plan giving 26 states time to pursue a lawsuit that aims to permanently halt it. president obama commented moments ago. >> this is not the first time
2:33 pm
where a lower court judge has blocked something or attempted to block something that ultimately was shown to beand i'm confident it is well within my authority and the tradition gnat executive branches discretion to execute this policy which will help us make our borders safer. >> so the president dealt a set back there by the judge who has been an outspoken critic of the president's intent and specifics on immigration saying in fact the states are likely to succeed to prove to grant the preliminary injunction and specifically that the administration exacerbated this problem. it gets more complicated but let's take it around.
2:34 pm
do you think this is -- >> if president obama sits there and says they've looked into it and he thinks he has the authority to do so he'll probably win the case. what i hope happens is they buy some time. there's something in the law president obama is suggesting that's more disturbing than allowing some blanket amnesty to 5 million. all these 5 million illegals who will be here, if they've been here a couple of years or so they can get a tax i.d. number. they can get a tax i.d. number file their taxes and no federal income tax for the whole period and earn an earned income tax credit and not only get a credit on their taxes but get a check. that means all the money we paid in taxes will go to illegals. it's an insane thing. i think it slipped under the law and i don't think anyone realizes what they did. hopefully, they look into that and remove that give away. >> the circuit in new orleans is going to take this issue off. this effects 270,000 adults who
2:35 pm
came here as children and been in the united states working, et cetera. >> i think it's beautiful. >> you love it. >> this executive order was done under the purpose of fixing our broken system. that's what they always say. we're going to physical examination fix our broken system. to fix the system you have to smash it to pieces. it's like hiring a handy man to work on your garage done and he says done because we removed it. it's also part of the play book which it's not what obama does that, it's the response to what he does which is characterized as evil. if you just want to have a process or some kind of order that gets immigrants into this country and respects the rights of lawful immigrants and not to minorities trying to get jobs if you believe in that you're portrayed at evil because you're amnesty or young children coming
2:36 pm
from central america, you're a rotten person and it often works because the media is into it. >> all right. so dana, he's saying that the administration exceeded the authority. they went and did a run around on congress. the president said we consulted the department. even though he said on 20 separate occasions he didn't have the authority to do what he just did. >> president said i have the authority. the problem with rushing these is it's sloppy. you have sloppy ledge station there's going to be long drawn out court battles. it's going to come down to rushing language through that made it very unclear. that's why you have all this uncertainty. >> it's a big deal. go ahead. >> what's the play book? i don't get that. >> somebody wearing red. >> you know.
2:37 pm
that's my secret. it's my secret signal to all my democrats out there. >> it's russian. >> don't tell anybody. it's our secret. look. it seems to me there's precedent towards this. part of what you would call amnesty, what i would call immigration reform. i'm not a lawyer but i think it will go all the way up to the court if i'm not mistaken. look, if this was done 20-30 years ago by reagan and nobody batted an eyelash, i don't understand why everybody's getting into it now. >> because it's barack obama. >> does it matter? >> maybe because the president may execute the laws of the constitution. next, one ivy league student's
